Spongy pedal. Soft brake. Excessive toe pedal travel

Applicable to Cleveland brake 

1. Air in hydraulic system. Check for source, then bleed hydraulic system.
2. Leak in system; brake, master cylinder, fittings, or lines. Locate leak and repair.
3. Defective master cylinder.
4. Back plate bolts loose causing excessive brake deflection. Torque bolts to proper value.
5. Excessive bolt torque has caused back plate to crush cylinder, evidenced by depressions around bolt holes. Replace cylinder and follow manufacturer's recommended torque values.
6. Defective brake lining (ballooning) Replace
7. Brakes too hot
