Damaged alternator crank gear on Continental 520 series aircraft engine

1. Disintegration of the front bearing, cracking of alternator mounting flange, and gear teeth damage to the alternator crank gear and crankshaft drive gear, probable cause is improper seating of the mounting flange before tightening the four mounting nuts. Don't force the alternator into position as damage to the alternator and drive gears could result. See Continental Service Bulletin M76-23 or latest edition.
