Cracked pinion housing assembly in Lycoming engine. Cracked starter housing

1. Kick-back on Lycoming engines can cause the Prestolite starter housing to crack. Kick-back is caused by:
  •  malfunctioning Shower of Sparks ignition
  • malfunctioning impulse coupling. See hard starting for details.
