1. Broken exhaust valve or possibly detonation.
2. Faulty CHT gauge or CHT probe.

177s34 cht probe CHT probe used in many Continental and Lycoming engines. Part number 177S34. This is a screw-in type probe. Some aircraft use a bayonet style probe as shown below.
