Lycoming or Continental aircraft engine won't idle unless boost pump off

1. Idle mixture extremely rich.

2. Engine pump fuel pressure too high.

3. Lycoming TIO-540-J2BD engines. If idle becomes difficult with or without the boost pump then replace the fuel pump relief valve spring. See Lycoming Service Instruction 1309.

4. Lycoming turbocharged fuel injected engines -Fuel diaphragm leak from AN drive fuel pumps. Fuel leaks into the pump upper deck reference line resulting in an enriched fuel/air mixture. See Lycoming Service Bulletin 497 and Lear Romec bulletin 101SB019.
