Bearing Failure on Bendix Magneto Lycoming Engine

Incorrect magneto adapter installed on engine. 

lycoming magneto adapter pad Compare the part number on the magneto adapter pad with the parts listing for your engine. There are at least two different magneto adapter pads used on Lycoming engines. One magneto adapter commonly used on 4 cylinder Lycoming's is 0.8 inch thick. The commonly used one for six cylinder Lycoming's is 0.9 inch thick.

If the 0.8 inch thick adapter pad is installed on a six cylinder Lycoming then the magneto rotor bottoms out in the engine and this loads the magneto bearings. Eventually the magneto bearings fail
