Scuffed cylinder walls on Lycoming or Continental Aircraft Engine

1. Chrome rings on chrome or Cermichrome cylinders. Metal smearing and transfer between the two surfaces.

2. Piston too hot. Metal transfer between the piston and cylinder wall with smearing of aluminum across the ring lands.

3. Incorrect piston or cylinder barrel size.

4. Sugar in the engine oil

5. Cold engine start combined with viscous oil.
