Burn marks on outside of cylinder barrel

1. Piston or rings seizing against cylinder barrel. This is usually caused by insufficient piston to cylinder barrel clearance or use of chrome rings in chrome (Cermichrome cylinder). See symptom "Scuffed cylinder walls".

2. Excessive piston temperature. Can be caused by running the engine without the cowling.

3. Crack allowing combustion gas to leak.
