Bendix "P" Lead Terminals Frequently Asked Questions

What is a P lead

The P lead is the wire that goes from your starter switch to the magneto. The P lead attaches to the magneto coil's primary windings (hence the name P lead) and is used to ground out the magneto (turn it off).

what is a Ground Terminal Kit

Ground terminal kit consists of the parts that attach the end of the P lead wire to the back of a Bendix
magneto. Slick magnetos and the newer SC series Bendix magnetos don't use ground terminal kits so if you have one of these magnetos you need not read further.

There are several different ground terminal kits for Bendix magnetos. Pressurized Bendix magnetos use a different terminal kit than non-pressurized magnetos. Some Bendix magnetos use different size nuts. The best method of making sure you get the correct kit is to check the magneto part number (10- number) against the terminal listing from the Bendix Master Maintenance Manual.
