Aircraft maintenance TroubleShoot > Aircraft Lead Acid battery troubleshooting Concord and Gill battery Battery won't hold charge1. Old battery.2. Charging rate set too low. A fully charged Gill or Concord battery at 77 degrees F. should have a specific gravity of 1.280 to 1.290. 3. Not enough time to recharge. 4. Standing too long. Especially in hot climate. 5. Broken cell partition. This is usually indicated by two or more adjacent cells running down continually. Particularly if left standing a few days. 6. Sulfated plates. A fully charged battery, if left in that state, quickly sulfates. A long slow charge may bring the battery back. 7. Dirty battery. Current flow from negative to positive post due to electrolyte or conductive dirt deposits on top of battery.
