Peeling or flaking of dope surfaces. Loss of adhesion to fabric

1. Incorrect preparation of the surface. This is usually caused by one of two reasons. The first is that the prime coat of dope wasn't sufficiently worked in the fibers of the fabric because of too thick a film or was not "wet" enough to thoroughly encapsulate the fibers. The other cause of poor adhesion is too may coats of aluminum, or the aluminum being sanded and not thoroughly flushed with clean water prior to applying finish coats of dope.
