Sluggish Start

1. Continental aircraft engines - slipping starter clutch spring in Continental starter adapter. Adapter will have to be removed and repaired.

2. Lycoming engines - Dirty starter drive. Lubricate starter drive with silicone spray. Don't use any oil's or greases as these attract dirt. If you replace the starter drive, there are several part numbers depending upon the pitch of the starter ring gear. Be sure to save or order a new roll-pin for installing the new starter drive.

3. Damaged pinion gear.

4. Hot out - suspect bad battery cables or solenoid - Cold out - suspect weak battery.
