Aircraft Maintenance TroubleShoot > Aircraft Turbocharger & Controller

Piper Navajo and Chiefton

1. Density control system.
2. Turbo mounted below engine oil level. Scavenge oil system with oil inlet check valve and oil out accumulator.
3. The density controller senses both the temperature and pressure (therefore density) of the compressor . When density of the air reaches a pre-set level, the density controller opens the wastegate, reducing compressor out- put/pressure to the proper level for wide-open throttle operation. The differential controller is designed to keep deck pressure from exceeding manifold pressure by more than a specified amount during part throttle operation. When deck pressure exceeds manifold pressure by more than a pre-determined value, the controller opens the wastegate, reducing turbo output.
