Turbocharger oil requirements

aircraft turbocharger

1. Satisfactory lubrication of the turbocharger bearings requires a minimum oil pressure of 10 psig at the turbocharger oil inlet port at engine lubricating oil. Immediate engine at low speed for a few minutes could allow the turbocharger to continue to rotate after oil pressure has dropped to zero.

The turbocharger can be prelubricated as follows to prevent a dry start after installation:

Fill the turbocharger oil inlet port with clean engine oil supply line to avoid spilling oil on the engine, not allowing a start. When a steady flow of oil is obtained from the supply line to show that air has been purged from the system, stop cranking. Reconnect the supply line.
